Junior Knight RIP

Post by Johnny Cox »

My friend and steel guitar legend passed at his home this morning after a long battle with colon cancer. Myself along with Joan Cox and Jody Nix had the opportunity to visit with Junior and his wife Saran yesterday just hours before his death. Rest in peace Big Brother. Arrangements are pending.

I watched Junior and Gary Carpenter on Saturday afternoons broadcast from the Longhorn Ballroom with Dewey Groom out of Dallas before I even heard of Buddy Emmons or Jimmy Day. His performances inspired me to buy the equipment and play. A great player, a cordial friend, and an easy man to like. High on the hill, Junior. Moment of silence and sincere condolences to his wife and loved ones.

Truly sad news. Junior was such a fine musician and a humble decent man. His playing was like no other and we enjoyed him at many steel guitar shows for years. My deepest sympathy and prayers for the family and friends. RIP Junior, you will be missed.

RIP Junior, The first pro I had ever met at my first PSGA show in Norwalk, CT. He was on tour with Leann Rimes, and promoting Carter Guitars with the late John Fabian, he was larger than life and such a nice guy.

My condolences to Saran and his family and friends, my heart weeps now.
Regards, Craig

I cried because I had no shoes, then I met a man who had no feet.

Rest In Peace my "Birthday Brother"(we share the same birthday); and Junior has been one of my long time Steel Guitar Big Brother ever since I lived in Mansfield, TX in 1992; I was 30 and he made sure I did everything the right way in my career....I loved him so much for everything he was to me.
Go rest High on the Musical Mountain Junior.

My sadness will be forever. Junior and I were very close to the same age. I've known each Junior for over two decades when I first was introduced to him by Jim Lindsey. May you rest in peace my friend and sincere condolences to all of his family.

I met Junior 25 years ago in Chattanooga, Tennessee at the Choo Choo City Steel Guitar Reunion, and he was a great friend and a great steel guitarist. I remember him saying "God bless you, Brett" after we talked for the first time. RIP Junior, you will be missed, buddy.

Saran, my heart hurts so much for you. I know Junior was loved and respect by so many! What a mark you both have made in this big world you shared!

Now it’s time to rest for a while….

(The first time I met Junior, I told Tommy he was so perfectly put together - it looked like he laid flat while someone starched and-ironed him -on high heat- from the top of his head all the way down to his feet 😎.)

What a sad day in the steel guitar community. I first saw Jr. Knight on a television show in the 1970s out of Dallas. His playing made such an impact on me wanting to play steel guitar. I always found Jr. Knight to be friendly and courteous. He was always a crowd favorite at the Texas Steel Show. His passing has left a huge void in the lives of so many musicians and friends. Eventually I was blessed to sit beside him for 1 1/2 hours and play a club meeting in Tyler, Texas. That day was a highlight for me. Prayers for Saran and their family during this most difficult time. RIP Jr. Knight, you touched so many lives. I would imagine there are several steel players who are welcoming you with open arms as you enter heavens gate.

Sad news. Condolences to his family and many friends.
I know he was particurlarly famous in the Texas area as well as all over the steel guitar world and music.

I believe I first heard Junior at the ISGC. Great player, great choice of songs. One of the things I noticed about Junior is that he was a snappy dresser. He always looked as good as he sounded.

I have the terrific Back to Back CD with his buddy Gary Hogue with whom he has now been reunited. Peace and comfort wishes for the bereaved.
