Added Peters Benders to my SX6

Post by Doug Anderson »

I added Peters Benders to my SX6. It was an easy install and they are a lot of fun. They seem durable and work well.

Now I just gotta keep practicing the coordination of my fingers on the strings, palm & hand on the benders and foot on the Moyo volume pedal. I LOVE the pedal steel sound I"m starting to get!!!!

Great job Doug!

Palm Benders are hours of fun!

Where did you get the palm bender covers? I've been looking for those and can't find 'em.

Thank you Michael. Having a blast so far! I think they will help me decide if I want to purchase a pedal steel in the future.

The covers are on Amazon. Got the idea from Lessons with Troy. They are actually grip tape for kids' fingerboard skateboards. I cut them to size then started on the bottom and wrapped around the top and to the bottom again. You get 24 for like $8 so there is room for mistakes.

Shrink tubing will probably work for those levers also....maybe Plasti-Dip too?

keep us posted, I am thinking of getting the identical lap steel but in 8 strings and I might consider adding benders.

Daniel...

.I like the SX a lot. I think it sounds great and is an incredible value. The legs and case are really nice too.

I like the benders a lot so far and the black pad seems to prevent my hand from slipping off. The benders twist a bit when I'm playing and I'd like them to lock in position. Peters Benders are made by Shad Peters and he has great customer service and is very helpful. He said they are designed to be able to twist so you can move them out of the way easily. He said to just replace the plastic washers on the arm with metal ones to lock them down which would only take a few minutes.

I think an SX8 with Benders would be a great buy. I have an 8 string Morrell that I got at an estate sale for $80 that I use for C6 tuning. The extra two strings was a little much for me for now so I took off the two end strings. I think buying the 8 string is a no brainer because you can use it as a 6 or 8 string and it is not a lot more expensive than the 6.

A friend loaned me a Rogue 6 string lap that he added Certano benders to. The Rogue is not an ideal platform for them. They hang off the butt end of the instrument. That said, they work great. Having fun with them but to be honest I think they are a limited value add. There’s a few stock cliches to be had for sure but it’s no pedal steel. But if you want to play Bud Isaac’s signature licks he recorded in Webb Pierce’s “Slowly” they don’t disappoint!
